Why Web Usability?
Usability rules the Web, Simply stated, if the customer can't find a product, then he or she will not buy it.
The web is the ultimate customer-empowering environment. He or she who clicks the mouse gets to decide everything. It is so easy to go elsewhere; all the competitors in the world are but a mouse-click away.
Why Indeed?
As a result of this overwhelming choice and the ease of going elsewhere, web users exhibit a remarkable impatience and insistence on instant gratification. If they can't figure out how to use a website in a minute or so, they conclude that it won't be worth their time. And they leave.
The Web reverses the picture. Now, user experience the usability of a site before they have committed to using it and before they have spent any money on potential purchases.
The equation is simple:
- In product design and software design, customer pay first and experience usability later
- On the Web, users experience usability first and pay later.
Very clear why usability is more important for web design.
On the web, your competition is not limited to other companies in your industry. with all the other millions of sites out there, you are in competition for the user's time and attention and web users get their expectations for great usability from the very best of all these other sites.
The Thinking Goes
" If i cant get these great service when buying $5 paperback book, why can't i get good online service when i spend thousands of dollars with you?"
Very good question by the way.
